People tomography: state and politics

Development of the magnetic resonance (MR) imaging to Russia, because X-rays is dangerous as a nuclear explosion in Hiroshima. It is worth pondering the mass production of people's MRI scanner - cheap, but at the same time effective.

Imports of CT scanners in Russia in 2009 - 1-2 sq. km. 2010

For the first time computed tomography as a nondestructive method of study of the internal structure of the object appeared in the 70s of last century, and the theoretical foundations of their own appearance of this diagnostic method were laid in 20 years. Now it is difficult to imagine a modern high-tech medical center, which would not use this method of diagnosis. Alas, while in Russia you can speak only about the beginning of active use of this method of diagnosis, most laymen, the term computed tomography sign of serials most about Dr. House.

Meanwhile, today in Russia are imported annually about 300-400 different types of scanners, as the actual CT scanners and magnetic resonance imaging, angiography stations and gamma cameras. However, given that the total number of hospitals in Russia, about 6.5 thousand, the need for these devices ranges from 5 to 10 thousand units. At the present time of purchase scanners almost entirely financed by public funds, the number of private clinics in Russia is relatively not large. Most imported into Russia is a new CT scanners, however, there is a certain amount of used instruments, as in the 1st half of 2010 about a third of scanners are available in Russia have served to benefit medicine in other countries. Last year, former use scanners were imported less than 9% of the total, however, the bulk is imported at the end of the year and the situation in 2010 is likely to change.

Meanwhile, given the high cost of CT scanners (new devices are 0.5 to $ 15 million, used from 0.2 to 0.8 million dollars) in recent years appear to produce scanners projects in Russia. There are already three of the four largest manufacturers announced plans to localize production scanners. Back in 2007, Siemens announced the screwdriver assembly in the facilities of "Ural Optical and Mechanical Plant". This year, there is information about the beginning of the joint production of Philips with the "Elektron" (St. Petersburg), the project involves precisely the co-production with the use of Russian components. The third project announced General Electric, in cooperation with "Rostekhnologii".

There is a purely Russian project, called "Public MRI scanner - Unitom", the developers have presented a working prototype imager, production from the company yet.

Designated projects appear on the background of the scandal connected with public procurement of CT scanners at a price too high, in some cases several times. Such violations are identified and earlier, the press can find references to local corruption scandals associated with the purchase of scanners back in 2007, then they really do not get publicity. Meanwhile, the problem of corruption is part of the procurement of expensive medical equipment is very acute. Certain violations of the law can be seen even in the analysis of import statistics, for example, the same model for the new CT scanner company SIEMENS MAGNETOM AVANTO in 2010 was imported at a price almost three times the price in 2009 is unlikely that the manufacturer of the year so far has increased the holiday pay prices.

Open discussion of the draft "Public MRI scanner" in Vologda

The "Public MRI scanner" at the beginning of this year was included on the proposal of the Siberian Branch RAS in the regions of Russia sent a list of innovative projects of the Academy of Sciences.

Vologda Oblast Government first responded to the appeal of the Academy of Sciences to participate in the discussion presented by projects. The authors of several projects, including the project "Public MRI scanner", were invited to a workshop to identify the needs of the proposed project units and opportunities to participate in the production of Vologda alleged high-tech products.

Workshop was held in Vologda, on June 16-17 and held at Government House with the participation of First Deputy Governor Nicholas Kostygova.

Report on the project "Public MRI scanner" made a member of the coordinating council of the open source project "Public MRI scanner" Professor A. Pirogov, on behalf of sponsors VI Krutskikh and RZ Sagdeev.

Draft report on the development of nuclear medicine in a Commission for Modernization and Technological Development of the Russian President

April 30, 2010, T. Golikova, Minister of Health and Social Development

In our country, laid a strong scientific tradition of nuclear technology, which, in turn, have strong potential for innovative development of domestic medicine.

First of all, the development of nuclear medicine is associated with diagnosis and treatment of cancer. However, the methods of nuclear medicine (radionuclide diagnostics and therapy and radiosurgery treatment methods, and proton beams) are increasingly used in a variety of socially significant diseases - cardiac, neurological, endocrinological, and other.

Over the past 10 years, mortality from cancer has risen to 13.8% and was the second leading cause of mortality in our country. Moreover, in nineteen eighty-eight regions of the figure is 10% higher than the national average.

In Russia each year for the first time revealed some 480 000 cases of malignant tumors. That is, cancer rates have now stands at 333.7 cases per 100 000 population. Over the past ten years, the incidence increased by 16%.

Currently registered in oncology facilities is more than 2.5 million patients, ie 1.8% of the population.

Unfortunately, about 60% of newly registered patients are identified on the third and fourth stages of the disease. This reduces the possibility of treatment. As a result, more than 200 thousand Russians become disabled each year from cancer (13.5% of total persons with disabilities).

Effectiveness of medical care for patients with cancer depends on the level of development and introduction of modern medical practice of nuclear medicine.

Development of nuclear medicine technology in Russia is far behind the world level.

Interview with developer of the prototype of the Public MRI scanner "Unitom" Dr. Krutskikh Valery

There is a well-established view that now in Russia is nothing new in the art can be done. How do you feel about that?

Yes, this belief is. But not for the fact that it is correct. It is very difficult to do, but possible.

Take our scanner. Many also did not believe in creating it. There is no government funding we have received. But today the scanner already exists and has more than one hundred patients. It should be noted, we did not want to cry about this achievement until you went all the way from idea to put it into practice - that is, until real Clinical operating system. And what we see now? Image obtained by MRI scanner "Unitom", which should become the prototype of the Public MRI scanner, it is not worse than the images obtained by MRI promoted foreign production.

Just look at the captured images, and do all yourself. The problem is that many do not even want to believe your eyes, do not want to believe the facts. So, I talked to one doctor who considers himself a professional in the diagnosis. He did not even look at the pictures that I showed him. That's what worries, to put it mildly...

Why do I need to produce new scanners in Russia? After MRI scanner screening already exist. Maybe we should think about buying, say, Chinese scanners or CT scanners were in use in other countries?

By and large, that's now coming in, but this does not solve the problem. If the scanners to Russia should be about 10-20 thousand, you can imagine how much budget money has to go abroad. Yes, and you find so many used scanners? And how much will it cost them support from foreign experts?

Russian serial production scanners in our country, and this is our main goal, would, among other things, to create thousands of new jobs in high technology. This is what we call our President and the Prime Minister. But without state support for one company or even a group of companies the task of this magnitude does not pull.

Round Table "Public MRI scanner"

People's scanner finds new supporters: a round table in Moscow State UniversityPeople tomograph acquires new supporters

For the first time round table devoted to discussion of the Open Project "Public MRI scanner", held October 9 2009 in Moscow at the IV-th science Festival, held at Moscow State University. MV Lomonosov Moscow State University. Round-table discussion in the form of the final of the 7th annual international lecture "Magnetic resonance in biology, physics, chemistry and medicine" was organized by educational and scientific center of the magnetic imaging and spectroscopy of Moscow State University (MSU TSMTS).

How much should cost scanner ???!!!

One survey in the X-ray machine gives you a charge of radiation, what would you have, being 2.4 km from Hiroshima in 1945. Than to replace it?
