FAQ

What is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)?

Magnetic resonance imaging - MRI or nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) - a new method of obtaining images of internal organs without using X-rays and radiation.

MRI scanner - scanner acquires images that are based on magnetic fields generated by the human body. MRI "sees" the soft tissues (muscles, nerves, brain, intervertebral discs, ligaments, etc.). In many cases, MRI can only get a diagnosticpicture, you need to select the method of treatment.

What are you better than others? Why you decided to launch an open source project "Public MRI scanner"?

First, because we went all the way from the ideas on the problem to the development and clinical use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Secondly, we have done all this on their own, without state support, and if we do get into a project that will increase our ability to multiply.

Finally, because we offer a business model that will address the interests of the state and business.

How much Russia needs to scanners?

In developed countries, 1 million people for 20 magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Consequently, the question is whether we want to be among the leading countries in the field of imaging, or not? If so, we must strive to European figures. Now even you can not say with certainty how many in our country, there are scanners. No official list. According to independent estimates, between 1 and 5 CT scanners per 1 million population, depending on the region.

We offer the owners of the magnetic scanners to register with us and so far the only way to assess how much real magnetic scanners in Russia.

What is the purpose MRI?

Three Nobel Prize in Medicine received for development of methods forimaging, a priori, remove the need for scanners. The world has about 50 thousand of MRI. They are considered the most secure, informative and sophisticated devices for medical diagnosis, with great prospects for development.

How is MRI?

During the MRI the patient is in a tunnel scanner if you use an indoor or MRI medical scanner couch, if an MRI done on an open MRI scanner. It is very important that the patient did not move during the study, because even slight movement can reduce the quality of the images.

The tunnel scanner good lighting, and a fan that blows on the patient and provide fresh air. During the MRI noise is heard, similar to the rhythmic sound of buzzing or work-related magnetic field gradients.

How long does it take an MRI?

30 to 60 minutes.

Are there any - contraindications to MRI?

Claustrophobia. Patient has for some time inside the "tube" scanner. If you can not stand closed spaces, tell the doctor about it. In some cases, to appoint a special study of sedation. There are also so-called "open" scanner. In these the patient is not in the "tube", and in the room - claustrophobia is not developed

In the room where the scanner can make metal objects (watches, coins, credit cards, telephones, etc.) - a powerful magnet scanner may be damaged, and the obtained images are of poor quality due to distortion of the magnetic field.

In addition, because of the strong magnetic field MRI scanner, in most cases, MRI can not be performed in patients with implanted into the body of the metal (the bone implants, implanted pacemaker, the fragments of shells, etc.). For a more detailed discussion, consult with your doctor.

Как подготовиться к магнитно-резонансной томографии (МРТ)?

There are no translations available.

Can you do an MRI during pregnancy?

MRI is much safer than CT and radiography for use during pregnancy, because this method does not use ionizing radiation (X rays). Currently, data on the presence of pathologic fetal exposure technique MRI does not. Pregnancy is a contraindication only to the introduction of contrast agents.

However, due to the specific course of pregnancy and exposure to magnetic fields on the body, performing MRI in the first trimester of pregnancy should not do, preferring to this study in the second or third trimester.

In any case, the implementation of an MRI pregnant should have a clear testimony and agreed with watching your obstetrician-gynecologist and physician office MRI.

What is a "Public MRI scanner"?

March 11, 2009 Ministry of Health and Social Development has issued orders to the number 105N that defines who and what needs tomography. And, according to this document, it became clear that the magnetic scan decided to supply only to the federal Centers. As for the municipal and regional entities, for their equipment has been decided to supply only the X-ray machines. The Ministry is understandable, since the foreign magnetic scanners are significantly more expensive than X-rays. Now, in addition, the crisis. Nevertheless, we have an alternative solution to the problem of diagnosing people - scanner, which can be comparable to the cost of x-rays, but at the same time easy to use, reliable, efficient, with remote control. And it is a scanner and a Public MRI scanner. Running its mass production, we can provide high quality diagnostic devices the most popular segment of the health system - municipal and regional hospitals. And consequently, he will have the widest distribution, and that means usually the word "Public".

What is the state project "Public MRI scanner"?

We already have an MRI scanner - "Unitom", has successfully passed clinical trials and cost-effective in the diagnosis. At its base is already possible to start mass production of the Public MRI scanner.

Is there a difference between X-ray and MRI?

Yes, and more! First of all, X-rays, in contrast to the magnetic scanner, is dangerous. In addition, there is a noticeable technical differences. The picture, obtained by means of X-rays - like a shadow, a man displayed in X-rays and X-ray absorption is proportional to the magnitude of the atomic number. In other words, through x-rays we see the human bones, which in a picture very different from the soft tissue, but the soft tissues do not differentiate between them. It is known that the man is 80% water, a molecule that consists of two hydrogen atoms, which have a magnetic moment. In a magnetic MRI scanner image is just obtained by analyzing the distribution of these magnetic moments. In other words, due to the magnetic scanner, unlike X-rays, we can not only see the soft tissue, but also to distinguish between them depending on their state: healthy or not.

Can MRI replace X-rays in the future?

As shown by recent studies, X-rays have a very negative impact on human health. Consequently, the tendency to replace the X-ray magnetic scanner should be: in order to avoid ionizing radiation from medical diagnostics. This is one of the main functions of the Public MRI scanner.

If you change the X-ray scanner Public MRI scanner, then how much it would cost?

It is clear that MRI should cost about the same as now is the X-ray machine.

What are the advantages of the Public MRI scanner compared with foreign counterparts?

Low cost. Low cost of ownership. Low power consumption. The possibility of remote diagnostics and maintenance.

Чем будет обусловлена низкая цена народного томографа?

There are no translations available.

Due to lower power consumption than the Public MRI scanner compared to foreign counterparts?

Just answer this question, without the technical details is difficult, but if you try to explain simply, the whole thing in choosing the magnitude of the magnetic field. In the medical environment, there is a misconception that the higher the value, the scanner is better. From the perspective of the same techniques to raise the question is not entirely correct. Physicians because, ultimately, care about quality "pictures." And it, in turn, by a ratio of signal to noise ratio. As the magnetic field is considered only an increase in the signal, but it requires a lot of energy. We are using mathematics and electronics improve signal to noise ratio is not due to the increase of the magnetic field, but due to digital signal recording and processing.

In addition, there is a direct physical cause - the power consumed by magnetic field gradients. It is known that the higher the field, the greater must be gradients of the magnetic field. This is a linear relationship. In turn, the magnetic field gradients are linearly dependent on the current, and power consumption is proportional to the square of the field. In other words, if we increased the field from 0.15 T up to 1, 5 T, we will need to increase the power of gradients in the 100 - that is, for example, from 1000 W at 0.15 T and 100,000 watts at 1.5 T.

To make it more clearly, imagine that you plugged in an iron in the room. The heat from it will be easy to disperse with simple conditioning (or you can just open the window.) Now imagine that you have a room with thousands of irons. Obviously, now you need to cool the air conditioning industry, which will also consume a commensurate amount of energy.

Imagine that we have the money, and we made the necessary number of scanners for Russia. But where, then, is to take the experts on their service?

The answer reveals another advantage of the Public MRI scanner to foreign analogues. You can work with him remotely. Our plan is to create a single point of diagnosis, which will flock, all medical information on our CT scanner, as well as one center to support them. Due to the fact that the Public MRI Digital scanner , repairing the machine will be to reboot and debugging software, it will be possible to produce over the Internet. In addition, we plan to duplicate all the basic components of electronics and computer system, as is done in airplanes, and in the magnetic system to break nothing. There are no moving parts and active electronic components. If you simply say, remember when you broke the last time the magnet on the fridge?

As for doctors - diagnosticians. They are small, but the creation of remote diagnostic centers, will allow for the first time to solve this problem. We already have an example of an organization like remote diagnosis between Russia and Germany. Scanning was performed on the patient's "Unitom" in Russia, and a famous German doctor Pfeiffer was diagnosed, while in Germany. Subsequently, the diagnosis was confirmed and the patient successfully operated on.

Do not risky to invest in the project "Public MRI scanner"?

Of course, everyone understands that the key risks associated with product development, and it has already been completed. Technical and clinical trialssuccessfully completed, the permission to mass production, scanner received a registration certificate as a product of medical equipment. In the end, it has already examined more than a thousand patients. As the physicists say, the existence theorem is proved. All other risks have to be linked to the demand forthat product, but it is now huge, and will continue to increase. In Russia, people are becoming painfully aware that their most valuable asset is health.
